Ingredients

Ingredients
  • 4 large ripe tomatoes, diced
  • 1/4 cup fresh basil leaves, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
  • 1 baguette or Italian bread, sliced into 1/2-inch thick pieces
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil for brushing

Method

Instructions
  1. In a medium bowl, combine the diced tomatoes, chopped basil, minced garlic, extra-virgin olive oil, and balsamic vinegar. Stir gently to mix all the ingredients. Season with salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste. Let the mixture sit for about 10 minutes to allow the flavors to meld together.
  2. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Place the sliced baguette or Italian bread on a baking sheet. Lightly brush each slice with olive oil. Toast the bread in the preheated oven for about 5-7 minutes, or until the edges are golden and crispy. Alternatively, you can toast the bread in a toaster or on a grill.
  3. Once the bread is toasted, remove it from the oven and let it cool slightly. Spoon the tomato mixture generously onto each slice of toasted bread. Arrange the bruschetta on a serving platter and garnish with additional fresh basil leaves if desired.
  4. Bruschetta is best served fresh while the bread is still crispy. Enjoy it as an appetizer or a light snack.

Notes

Choose ripe tomatoes and fresh basil for the best flavor. Toast the bread until crispy to prevent sogginess. Customize with additional toppings like diced cucumbers, red onions, or Parmesan cheese.
