Ingredients

Ingredients
  • 4 cups fresh watermelon, cubed and seeded
  • 1 cup fresh lemon juice (about 6-8 lemons)
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup fresh mint leaves, plus extra for garnish
  • 4 cups cold water
  • Ice cubes
  • Watermelon slices and lemon wedges for serving

Method

Instructions
  1. Prepare the watermelon: Cut your fresh watermelon into cubes, removing any seeds. You'll need about 4 cups of watermelon flesh.
  2. Juice the lemons: Squeeze fresh lemons until you have 1 cup of lemon juice. Fresh juice makes all the difference in flavor!
  3. Blend the watermelon: In a blender, combine the watermelon cubes and fresh mint leaves. Blend until completely smooth.
  4. Strain the mixture: Pour the blended watermelon through a fine-mesh strainer into a large pitcher, pressing to extract all the juice. Discard the pulp.
  5. Sweeten the lemonade: Add the sugar to the watermelon juice and stir until completely dissolved.
  6. Combine everything: Pour in the fresh lemon juice and cold water, then stir well to combine.
  7. Chill and serve: Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to allow flavors to meld. Serve over ice with watermelon slices, lemon wedges, and fresh mint sprigs.

Notes

Choose ripe watermelon that feels heavy for its size and has a creamy yellow spot. Adjust sweetness to taste as watermelons vary in natural sweetness. For extra mint flavor, gently muddle the mint leaves before blending. The lemonade tastes even better when made a few hours ahead to allow flavors to develop.
